How to Find Your Ring Size

Option 1: Measure a ring you already own
Take a ring that fits the intended finger well and measure the inside diameter in millimeters. Match that number to the chart below.

Option 2: The string or paper strip method
Wrap a thin strip of paper or string snugly around the base of the finger where the ring will sit. Mark where it overlaps, then measure the length with a ruler in millimeters. Match that number to the circumference column below.

Option 3: Not sure, or buying as a gift?
The average US ring size is 7 for women and 10 for men. If you're buying a surprise gift and can't get an exact measurement, this is a safe place to start — and if it needs adjusting later, resizing is simple.

A few tips for an accurate measurement

  • Measure in the evening, when fingers are at their largest
  • Avoid measuring right after being out in the cold, or after a workout — fingers shrink in cold weather and swell in heat
  • If you're between two sizes, size up rather than down
  • Wider bands fit more snugly than thin ones, so consider going up half a size for a wide band
